About Frostproof Florida
Frostproof resides in central Florida, within Polk county between Lake Clinch and Lake Reedy. This 2.5 square-mile town was settled in 1850, beginning as a fort called Fort Clinch. The area didn't see significant influx of settlers until the 1880s. Though original immigrants into the area were attracted because of its plentiful hunting and fishing, the name was designed to bring in agricultural landowners, promising there would never be any frost to ruin crops or citrus farms. The town's primary routes include US Route 27 and 98, as well as the Scenic Highway (State Road 17).
